Hello everyone! Here is our mission school update:

The Mats are going down, the stickers are on the windows and Head Instructor Don is very excited to begin trial classes this month! Look forward to our grand opening for Mission in March of 2018.

We are also talking about a new word of the month in all our Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove.

CITIZENSHIP

Citizenship means: Being an active, caring and responsible member of our community.

Being part of a community or a group means each individual must:

  • Be helpful and support, make sure we all pitch in to help each other.
  • Be Respectful, treating others in the community the way they themselves would like to be treated.
  • Do their part, keeping communities safe for everyone and treating people fairly.
  • The best way to keep things fair and safe is for a community to have rules and for everyone to follow them.

What kind of rules do we have to follow?? We have different rules for different places:

  • At home:
    • Clean up after yourself
    • Respect other people’s privacy
  • At School:
    • No running in the hallways
    • Respect other people’s space
    • Listen to your teachers
  • At your Dojang (Taekwondo School)
    • Bow and be respectful
    • Listen to your Instructors
    • Be kind to other students
  • In our Community
    • Obey traffic laws
    • Respect other people’s livelihood
    • Keep the community clean, don’t litter!

We can definitely all enjoy a better community by being good citizens. Let’s all pitch in to make South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove great places to live!

**Should you desire extra stars:

  1. Tell your Instructors rules at your house
  2. Tell your Instructors rules at your School
  3. Tell your Instructors the rules of the Dojang (Taekwondo school)

Changs Taekwondo Mision

Hello everyone! We have a new word of the month to share with everyone.
Discipline
Junior meaning: I work before I play!
Senior meaning: Training oneself to do what needs to get done, when it needs to get done.
Discipline is the ability to continue to work hard to achieve your goals from the beginning to the end.. So let’s talk about 3 things..
‘Willpower’
‘Wantpower’
‘Won’tpower’
Wantpower relates to what you WANT to accomplish.
I WANT an A+ in Math
I WANT to do the Splits
I WANT to get my blackbelt
Etc..
Willpower is regarding what you WILL do, what you WOULD do to achieve your goal
I WILL study my math drills for 1 hour a day
I WILL practice my splits for 20 minutes a day
I WILL train hard every class, never miss a class, be respectful, bring my Instructor snacks…
Etc…
Won’tpower is a new concept we may not have heard of before. It is the power to decide what I WON’T let happen to me
I WON’T play games or hang out with friends until my 1 hour of math drills is over
I WON’T goof around in class and I will do my best stretching in class
I WON’T miss any Taekwondo classes
Etc…
So with the 3 Discipline superpowers we can definitely accomplish our goals.. Remember:
“We do not rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.” – Archilochus
Taekwondo Mission Discipline

Hello everyone, we had an awesome picnic last weekend! Students from all 4 Chang’s Taekwondo locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove attended. It was so much fun, we trained together, played games together and so much more! We are already looking forward to our Chang’s Taekwondo Picnic in 2018.
This coming week will be very exciting for our school, we have a tournament coming up for our World Taekwondo Federation. We will be having students competing in sparring as part of our Elite Sparring Team with Instructor Andrew.
As well, we will be having our demonstration team performing the opening ceremonies under Instructors José and Yoon.
We strongly urge our students to come out and support both our Elite Sparring team and CDT (Chang’s Demonstration Team).
The tournament is Saturday, October 28th at Capilano University Sportsplex
The opening ceremonies will be starting after Poomsae, which begins at 9:00 am.
Remember to bring water, snacks and pocket change to buy some refreshments.
Definitely, wear your awesome CDT T-Shirt or Chang’s T-Shirt!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your Instructors.
See you there!
White Rock Picnic - Changs Taekwondo

Hello everyone! September is just around the corner, students from Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove will be returning to school in just over a week! We have some ideas on how you can return to school like a confident Martial Artist.
1. Make sure you are punctual.
As a Martial Artist, it is important to be early/on time for school, team practices, appointments, Taekwondo, etc. Have you ever been late for something, and then feel embarrassed or get called out because of it? Let’s be on time! This will not only make you feel good, it will let other people look to you and depend on you! Plus you’ll never miss a thing!
2. Make sure you shower, brush your teeth, get a haircut, trim your finger/toe nails and wear clean clothes!
There are few things more universally bad than a smelly friend! We want everyone to be not only healthy, but feel good about themselves as well. Not only does it feel better, but you will find it is easier to make friends if they can talk to you without you smelling like a troll!
3. Do your homework and Reading on time!
Nothing is enjoyable if you don’t understand, or if you feel like you are behind or you missed something. If we want to be able to enjoy everyday of school from September to June, then we have to definitely do our homework right away. This will let us wake up without dread, and go to school without a weight on our shoulders. Not only will your grades improve, but you will smile more!
4. Make sure you PICK your friends wisely.
Ever heard of the saying: “You are what you eat?” The same principle applies to your friend group. You become who you hang out with. So if you are hanging out with people who stay up late, or don’t do their homework, or associate with negative things.. then odds are that you will try those things to fit in with that friend group. We will be much happier and life will be easier if we choose friends whose principles and morals fit with us. We are Martial Artists, so we are confident, polite, courteous, respectful and happy. Find friends who are the same and you will be all the better for it!

We hope, as your Instructors and a positive role model that our students have the best academic year ever for 2017-2018. If you are struggling with anything, please come talk to your Instructors. We’ve all been through it, and we are more than happy to share our wisdom with the next generation!
**If you should want some extra stars:
1. Show your Instructor your new School Gear.
2. Tell your Instructor how you plan to succeed this year in school!
